On Wednesday 25th March, The Society organised a planetarium outreach event at the Peebles Community Centre for the benefit of 175 local primary and nursery children from First Nursery, Broughton, Newlands and Kingsland Primary Schools.
Two staff from The Royal Observatory in Edinburgh manned the mobile Planetarium (see picture) and completed six shows spaced throughout the day to give the children an insight into our night skies.
This was all complimented by an interactive solar system talk, meteorite handling, colouring-in station and to finish, juice and snacks for the children. There was also quite an array of telescopes (see picture) kindly provided by Society members, trained on some space pictures on the walls for the children to spot.
The feedback has all been positive and the Society hopes to run this or something similar on an annual basis in view of the enthusiasm shown by the children.
